“Polar power implementation follows standard Bluetooth Smart specification for power data. Our priority has been to get our own Kéo Power Bluetooth® Smart fully working before improving 3rd party sensor compatibility. The target is to improve compatibility for selected 3rd party power sensors in the upcoming releases. More detailed schedule for improvements will be confirmed later.”

“The target is to improve compatibility for selected 3rd party power sensors in the upcoming releases. Unfortunately stages is not fully following all the information fields specified in Bluetooth Smart power spec. The problem is in stages side and they are aware of this.
As soon as this issue is fixed from their side we can verify if we need to do some fine tuning also for V800 to be fully compatible with Stages.”

hello,
since the last update, the link between the V800 and Stages Power is working, but the values are fantasizing. On my V800, i have values almost 2 times those on my Edge800.

We are currently working on updating our Bluetooth protocol which will allow the power meter to communicate with even more head units than the vast amount that are currently compatible.
Our next Firmware update will allow this. (To the best of our knowledgeable the V800 will be compatible with this update)

Right now we “officially”support Keo Power Bluetooth – though our Power implementation follows standard Bluetooth Smart specification for power data. The target is to improve compatibility for third party sensors and PM’s in the upcoming releases.. Two parts to this..
1) We have internal work to do – we’ll absolutely try to bend and adapt to key power meters.. We want that compatibility..
2) we’re also having open dialog with other brands to improve their implementation of the profile to ensure things are close to being on spec. FWIW we actually co-chair the Sports & Fitness working group at Bluetooth SIG.

While the V800 has been optimized initially for our Keo Power Bluetooth Smart product, future updates will allow users of products like Stages power system and Powertap’s Bluetooth cap to use in conjunction with the V800.

更にPolar公式サイトのフォーラムでも、同じようなやりとりがいくつか行われていました。やはり世界中にStagesへの対応を待っている人がいるようです。

“You are correct that our Bluetooth protocol does not work with the V800. We will have a firmware update in the coming month that will allow this. No exact date right now but it is nearing release.”

We are ready with an update to our app and firmware, but waiting on approval from the Bluetooth special interest group, to make sure we have it lined up with their standards and won’t need any future changes to the Bluetooth protocols.
We were hoping to have it out already, but still waiting on some confirmation and with everyone busy for the holidays it has been delayed.

We should be rolling out an update by the end of the month. We do need to do some more testing to make sure, but it is possible the V800 will require an update as well. We want to ensure 100% Bluetooth compatibility with all Bluetooth head units and apps, so we’re making sure we get it all right before we release an update.

As of now we are awaiting approval on some changes from a third party. Unfortunately I do not have a date when the update will be available, as we were told it would be available by now.
right now Polar needs to update the firmware on their end as well. Their head unit actually doubles all our values which obviously makes the data irrelevant for the user. This is not an issue we can fix on our end as we are unable to change our firmware for only one head unit.

Currently there is no compatability between the Stages crank and the Polar V800
. The reasons lie in the details.
Every manufacturer (including Polar) processes the data of the powermeters a little bit differently. The same goes for the sensors. Every sensor basically uses its own information protocoll. There is no common standard. As a consequence, even while most of the products are Bluetooth Smart capable, they are not campatible amongst eachother. With Stages and Polar V800 there are currently issues with the association to bikes and the information processing.
Due to the lack of standards, it is up to the manufacturers, to sit together and work out solutions together. Polar is currently in contact with the developers of the stages powermeter (and others) to establish compatability. This process will take a while longer, so we are currently expecting a harmonization by the end of Q1 2015. Currently we don’t have any detailed information, hence this timeframe is only a rough estimate.
As soon as there is any news on this, our colleagues will publish it on updates.polar.com. Right now, I would therefore not recommend buying such a powermeter, if you plan to use it with the V800 exclusively. But improvements are on the horizon, we’ll just have to wait a bit longer.
